2013 Hollyford

Trip Report

A May trip to Big Bay and back up the Hollyford Valley.

Highlights of the trip were:

• Staying at Gunns Camp for the 2nd year in a row.
• The flight into Big Bay and landing on the sandy beach in a little plane
• Exploring Big Bay
• NOT the rats in the ceiling at Big Bay Hut
• The Coastal route around to Martins Bay
• The Coastal Rata vine in flower
• Billy Tea over fire every smoko stop (thanks Alf!)
• The Octopus in the tide pools
• Dolphins at sunset heading up the Hollyford River mouth
• “Charlie’s Place” for lunch
• Exploring Jamestown
• Fishing in Lake McKerrow
• The Demon trail not being that “demonic”
• The “tourists” having to bush bash around Alf’s smoko camp fire
• Simon’s humour
• NOT the lack of fireplace at Hidden Falls hut
• The phenomenal weather on all the six days we tramped.
