Trip Report
Lake Hauroko Jetty

A stunning trip down to the South Coast track via Lake Hauroko, the Wairaurahiri River (“NZ’s longest waterfall” which is actually NZs steepest commercially navigable river by jet boat).

It was a spectacular clear autumn day when we departed from the boat ramp at Lake Hauroko. Half way down the river we stopped for a cup of tea in the bush at Jase’s uncle’s off the grid crib.

Down the river to the Wairaurahiri Hut for the night with some exploring of the wonderful beach the other side of the Waitutu Lodge.

The walk out featured big wooden viaducts, eating lots of carrot cake (Rochelle made a large one for us to eat), lots of sandflies that bit us all and lots of mud along the way.

Ethan and Jase on Blowholes Beach

Port Craig was a busy little hut for the night then the long walk out the next day was almost never-ending.

A great weekend away!
